Beating kid stains
Around the time that my son was a month old I was introduced to the world of BST, if you don’t know what that is it stands for buy, sell, trade. My cousin added me to some Facebook groups where you could buy and sell brand name kids clothes (they also have groups for adult clothes but not as big) this is where I found out how to take the best care of clothes to ensure they held their value.
Here’s the thing, I never really thought about it with my daughter because she was a pretty clean kid! She didn’t like getting very dirty so her clothes stayed in good condition… then little man came.
I swear that kid makes a mess in anything he is wearing! Lately he has picked up this habit of wiping his fingers on his shirt instead of a napkin, needless to say it drives me INSANE!! So here is one of his Hanna Andersson shirts that he was wearing eating guacamole if you can see more dirty than the napkin.
So I treated it with the magic trifecta!
Mix it up and rub on with toothbrush. If your stain is more grease based I add a bit more blue Dawn. I would love to say that I measure this out every time, but I don’t, even the times when I just eyeball the recipe and let it sit for a few hours to overnight then throw in the wash it still works.
Here is the kicker, DO NOT TUMBLE DRY until you know the stain is gone. Check it out of the washing machine if it’s gone then throw in the dryer. If you are reselling kids clothes some high end brands (Boden) do better to hang dry and you are getting the extra protection of knowing you are not setting in the stain. Around our house that ends up being quite a bit of wash so awhile ago I picked up this super lightweight foldable drying rack for $24.99 and now I have room for a ton!
I hope this helps you feel like you can spend a little bit more on kids clothes (and on yourself) since you know you have a secret weapon on getting out those crazy kid stains!
