Fit Tips: Dress true to size, L (check the size guide)
When I had dinner with my friend Skye McClain around Mother’s Day we were talking about feeling like we are in this rare blogger circle. We are both curvy moms that don’t fall into the typical blogger size (aka XS/S sizes 0-4) but we are not plus size bloggers (size 16+). Even in the fashion industry they all us in-betweeners. Although the funny thing is there are a lot of women that fall in this size 4-14 range, like me…and a lot of my friends.
So she introduced me to two other amazing blogger moms (Thuy and Caroline) that each have a unique style and size. We decided that we were going to celebrate our unique style and sizes by showing you a classic summer staple (black maxi dress) styled 3 ways, on 4 bodies so 12 total looks!!
Let me first tell you a bit about this maxi dress that I’ve had now for a few years. I love that it has an elastic band at the waist so with wedges I can pull it down a bit to make it longer, then with flip flops I can pull it up and fluff out the top to make it shorter (I’m explaining this in my IG stories today). It also has a great price point it’s normally $52 but currently marked down 25% so under $40. Although I always get questions with thin strap dresses so yes I have on this strapless bra that does not slip or slide for me. Since I know some of you are still not strapless bra ladies I linked several other black maxis below that can be worn with a regular bra.

Recently I did a post about taking outfits from day to night on vacation so I was thinking, if I had this maxi dress in my suitcase what would I grab to dress it up to head to dinner? A kimono! This one from Evereve is perfect because it already had a longer front that made it easy to tie up right where the elastic of the maxi dress waistband is.
Now once I started this look I couldn’t stop at one kimono I found this fun Amazon palm print that is a lighter weight perfect as a beach coverup but then can be thrown over your maxi for night.
Fit Tips: Kimono tts, Large, light green 2 color
Fit tips: Jacket tts, L (check size guide) // Wedges size up 1/2 size // Tote is medium size
This look is by far the most in my comfort zone, most of my friends have probably seen me wear this EXACT outfit several times. One of my favorite summer pieces is this wood bead tassel necklace. I’ve had it for several years but the bright summer colors make me happy and brings that touch of fun to a classic black dress.
This weekend it’s part of the 30% off everything at Accessory Concierge with code MEMORIALDAY and I will tell you I’ve only seen this necklace go on sale maybe 2 other times in the past few years!
The jacket is another piece that if you look at many of my outfits I’m constantly wearing because it’s soft, stretchy and in Texas the perfect weight for spring, fall and over AC’d restaurants in the summer. This jacket fits true to size but in KUT from the Kloth a large is a 10/12.
Fit Tips: Flip flops are tts, I wear 7-8 for size 7
Now the last look I wanted to be honest with you, how would I wear a black maxi dress? With my hair up headed to the pool, on the way back from the pool, snuggled up on the couch mid day with my kids after having lunch, just CASUAL. So here it is, I grabbed my fun big beach tote that hold two full size beach towels (plus more), my Havaianas flip flops and some aviators and I’m ready for some tanlines… and maybe a little tequila.
If tequila & tanlines are not your thing, no worries this tote comes in 6 other styles. I also have the pom poms and use it a ton during the summer as well. This weekend the tote is regularly $40 and down to $25, MEMDAY will get you free ship at $75.
So here is the final look my black maxi dress styled 3 ways CASUAL, DRESSY and EVERY DAY! Thank you so much for checking out this post and don’t forget to check out Thuy, Caroline & Skye on Instagram to see what they put together!
