A little while ago I asked you to pick if you would like to see Ann Taylor or Banana Republic Factory in my next work wear round up and since the vote was sooo close I decided to pick Ann Taylor since it was my go-to when I worked in a corporate position.
In my career since I did interviews daily I was almost always was in a suit and heels. Over the past year the company has made their dress code more casual but for over a decade I was in a suit.
I know that Ann Taylor has a reputation for being pricey, which I totally understand but now is the time to pick up some pieces because sale items are an extra 60% off through 7/8.
Before we get into the items I found let’s get out of the way a few specifics, I’m 5’5 and typically wear a size 10/12. In Ann Taylor I am almost always a 12 in bottoms and dresses or M/10 in tops. Also I need to note that the lighting in Ann Taylor is HORRIBLE!! I did my best to take out shadows yet keep as much original color as possible, but it’s still hard to tell navy vs. black in some of these pics so I will specify.
Fit Tips: size up 1/2 size
First let’s start with the shoes in all the posts, I am a heels gal especially with business professional and when I saw these cut out ones I thought super cute! Well, after about 20 min they started getting tight so I would size up 1/2 size on these. I typically love Ann Taylor heels and right now they have a TON of cute ones I just didn’t want to have to link these in all the following pics so here you go.
Other pumps I would grab from Ann Taylor:
Fit Tips: tts in a 12
If I was back at my corporate job this would be the #1 dress I would be grabbing. First because it has a classic sheath shape yet the great ruching to the side to camouflage any extra tacos this week. Additionally this crosshatch fabric comes in the skirt and blazer for great mixing and matching.
Fit Tips: tts, in a 10 need 12
This one immediately caught my eye in the store for the sheath fit and the fun dark pink color. The only problem is they only had a size 10 and as you can see I need a 12 and/or some spanx! Although the dress is so pretty on and has just enough stretch for those jobs where you are sitting for a lot of the day.
Fit Tips: Top tts, M // Skirt tts, 12
This classic grey skirt is a must-have in any business professional woman’s closet. It has a great length and pencil fit while not being too constricting because it has a bit of spandex to move with you.
The top I loved the longer sleeve with a cut out detail on the neckline and sleeve that makes this classic top dressy enough to pair with a skirt.
Fit Tips: Top tts, M // Skirt tts, 12
This white ruffle blouse and black pencil skirt still makes me feel like I should be on an episode of Suits. I love the classic look and with the super hot summers in Texas having greta looking shell tops is crucial. This top looks gorgeous tucked, untucked under a blazer and on its own.
The black pencil skirt is a piece from my favorite suiting fabric at Ann Taylor the seasonless stretch. When I would give professional dress presentations this was always my example of buying 1 GREAT suit that fits you well and you can have for an interview, presentation or just when you need to WOW your boss. Ann Taylor has been making this exact fabric for YEARS so adding to it each season is easy and all the pieces match.
Fit Tips: Ankle pants in modern fit size 12, if I grabbed the curvy fit size down // top tts, M
This last outfit seriously made me so so happy! It is very hard for me to find classy ankle pants that are the right length, thickness and shape and these suckers marked all the boxes. I tried on both the curvy and modern fit, since I am bigger in the thighs and less in the rear and hips the modern is the best fit for me. It also has a bit lower rise which I enjoy, yet if your hips don’t lie go with the curvy fit.
The stripe top is in a jersey/ polyester feeling material that is slinky yet not thin and clingy. I love the longer sleeves and contrasting stripe on the boatneck to add some flair. It does have a longer shirttail hem so for a professional environment I would tuck in but this is one of those tops you could totally dress down on the weekend.
