So funny I started strong with my 10 outfit posts but then I couldn’t figure out what the next “theme” would be other than hey look I got dressed! As I continued to post so many of you asked for my favorite shorts and while I did a post last year there are a few new styles that are making the cut this time around.
I need to mention a few stats because I know that shorts can be a TRICKY thing to figure out. I’m 5’5 and typically a size 12 bottom when in doubt in shorts I WILL size up. I prefer a 4″ inseam since I feel like I have shorter legs and a mid rise (nothing over a 10″ rise works for me on shorts). Those are typically my criteria but as you can see a few sneaked in shorter and longer and I still love them. Also for size reference I’m a 36DD 10/M top in most things but will size up if I need extra chest room.
Fit Tips: Tank size up if in-between, L // Target skort tts, L // Denim Jacket tts, L // Flip Flops tts
Last year I fell in love with the skort, the perfect thigh saving, looks cute beats the ever loving texas heat shorts/ skirt combo. Target came out with their “updated” version of last year’s favorite but made the backside slightly longer. While I had reservations I think that my booty lifts it up enough that it is not noticeable from the front and gives just that little bit more bending over coverage for mamas like me always having to pick SOMETHING up.
Overall love this skort, the cream is slightly sheer but the undershorts cover any sheerness are a good length and have good breathability.
Fit Tips: Tee tts, L but has some room and is fairly long // Skirt if in-between size up I’m in a 12 and it’s for sure tighter than last year that could be the new skirt or the weight gain lol // flip flops tts
My 2nd must have skort is from Athleta. This skort is like the Mercedes Benz with thicker fabric, more breathable shorts and zip side pockets. Last year they had the black, rose and olive but this navy is NEW! While I think the size 12 still fits, it’s a little tighter and shorter than the Target version but I’m pretty sure that’s a me issue not a skort issue.
Fit Tips: Sweater size up if on-between, L // shorts tts, 12 these have some good stretch and these have been un-cuffed vs the online photo // sneakers tts
Every time I post these shorts I get questions on where I got them, then I post the link and get “those aren’t the same shorts!” Yes, girl they ARE! These classic J.Crew shorts have been around awhile but they have not gotten the notice that they are WAY better un-cuffed! It add the perfect amount of length and along with the slight stretch, mid-rise and opaque thickness they are my go to year after year.
Fit Tips: Amazon tee is custom fit based 2 body scans and then 6 customizations// This style is Medium-weight cotton fabric, cloud white, medium length, classic fit, deep v, short sleeve // Denim shorts tts, 12
Let’s just say I love these shorts and I had to order a new size this year because I was not willing to go a summer without my classic KUT shorts. These will feel a bit tight upon first try but they loosen up as you wear them so don’t go too tight.
Fit Tips: Crewneck sweatshirt size up if in-between, L // OTS sweater size up for looser fit, L // denim rolled cuff short size down if in-between, 31
Another pair of must-have shorts in a new 2021 size (yay COVID stress eating!) Either way I’m not hating it because going up to the 12 has made these a looser boyfriend fit so if you want more fitted I would size down. These have great stretch without saggy butt and good length at 4.5″ that doesn’t ride up.
Fit Tips: Tanks size up if in-between these are stretchy, jersey and run long // Denim shorts size up 1 full size, 14 // Flip Flops, tts
Last summer I grabbed these super popular denim shorts and wasn’t super impressed, here’s the problem I went with my “normal” size. For these shorts to slouch down enough to be comfortable you need to go up AT LEAST 1 size. If you don’t then the ride too high on the waist and there was MAJOR camel toe situations going on once I ignored the label and grabbed a size 14 I fell in love. Granted these are a SHORT, short with about a 3″ inseam so know that going in but for under $18 they are amazing (when they are in stock).

When you give me hot pink and pull-on there is a lot to love! Although I have found that many places recently want to make their linen blend shorts a HIGH RISE (insert eye roll) these are still a perfect mid-rise with a comfortable 4″ inseam. The only drawback is these are many times excluded from sale promotions. Although for under $50 I still think they are amazing and will be wearing the heck out of mine this summer.
Oh one more thing, since these are a linen blend they do NOT wrinkle like regular linen these look the same minute 1 to hour 10.

Last year’s version of these shorts were my number #1 seller and honestly I know why, I bought every color too! These are moisture wicking, great pockets, mid rise and now have an extra zipper pocket. Like the Athleta skort I’m SOO happy to se these come back in NAVY for the first time.
While the style is slightly different the fit, feel and comfort are all there and I’ll be wearing the heck out of these this summer!

These shorts are a surprise category for me. They are as thick as a denim short, stretchy as an athletic short and pull-on style like lounge wear, I mean does it get any better?! While I size down in the Farallon joggers I wanted to ensure I had enough thigh room in these so I stuck to my normal size 12 and they are great.
The other AMAZING thing about these shorts is they come in the elusive 5″ inseam when you order the “tall” so if you like a 4″ that’s what I’m wearing but if you want a bit more length that is also available.
Fit Tips: Jersey tee size down if in-between, M // Shorts tts, 12 these also come in 3.5″ and 9″ inseams // Miller sandals size up 1/2
These for years have been my go-to chino short and this year I wanted to try out the longer 5″ length. I love the mid-rise, stretch and classic look of these. I was originally concerned that the 5″ might feel too long but I’m liking them.
The drawback though is their white short used to be my #1 white option until this year, they replaced their nude pockets with WHITE! They show the pockets now and it’s SUPER annoying, so please give Shep and Ian a call and tell them to bring back the nude pockets. Ok rant over. All the other colors (and inseams) are still amazing so they made the list, but people stop messing with my favorites.
Fit Tips: Rash guard size up if in-between, L // shorts tts, 12 // flip flops tts
Alright ladies that’s it, lots of the same styles because they fit me well. Some new updates to old favs and plenty of options at all price points. Now slip on those shorts, shake that booty on over to the pool, ice cream store, beach, or just across the street for some driveway social distancing happy hours and have a great spring and summer!
