Friends over the past few months I’ve been thinking a lot about health, my job and life as a busy mom. As a full time blogger there is no “vacation time” or instances when I have off. A great friend and mentor of mine said “You will burn out if you don’t start to take some days off, your community will be there for you.”
During the holiday season I took about 2 weeks and really pulled back the amount of posts and work I was doing. To be honest it was hard. I’m a total workaholic and always have been. I noticed that during that time I just replaced being busy with work to being busy at home with projects and cleaning. I had to REALLY find something that makes me disconnect and chill out.

Crazy thing is as I’ve talked about this need to disconnect so many of my mom friends have said they need to as well! Over the past two years the stress of everyday life has been far more heavy than any of us could have imagined in March 2020.
I know it’s not always feasible to take a trip or go to the spa so I wanted to share some things that I do at home to relax and refresh my mind and heart.
1. TAKE A BATH
I know not everyone is a bath person but I sure am! I love an almost scalding hot bath filled with bubbles. What really helps my body though is Epsom Salt so I use the Dr. Teals Foaming Bath with Epsom salt. During the winter months I like the Eucalyptus & Spearmint to clear up any stuffy noses.
Then after my bath I will use the body oil in lavender to relax and moisturize my body. Plus anything lavender pretty much puts me to sleep!
2. READ A FUN BOOK
While I love a good Netflix binge (yes I breezed through Emily in Paris during my break) sitting and reading a fun and engaging book just does something different for my brain. While it’s still a screen the almost book like quality and lower light of the Kindle is kinder to the eyes, plus you can adjust the warmth of the screen based on your lighting.
Now I get a lot of questions if the Kindle Oasis is worth the money compared to the paper white. While both are waterproof having on the one handed page turning feature is sooo worth it in my experience. This is especially useful in the bath or laying by the pool with drink in the other hand!
3. PAMPER MY FACE
In or out of the bath one thing that makes me slow down and unwind is paying attention to my skincare routine. I don’t know about you but when I get stressed I see it in fine lines around my eyes and breakouts!
Over the past year I’ve been adding to my Elemis skincare stash (you can see all my favorites here) but in the past month or so I have added the Hydra-Gel Eye Masks to my long skincare routine. You know those times when I’m taking a bath and reading that final juicy chapter on my kindle.
Since these eye patches are individually wrapped they stay with more moisture on the product than other eye patches I have used in a bigger tub. I keep them on for about 20 minutes then pat in the reminding product.
My other “everyday” refresh is using the Rose Cleansing Balm. This stuff melts away makeup, smells amazing and just gives me that spa feeling at home. I follow it up with a 2nd cleanse with the Dynamic Resurfacing Face Wash.
When all else fails… CLOSE THE DOOR AND TAKE A DEEP BREATH
With two kids, puppy, husband and all the things sometimes I just need a moment to myself. Over the past few years I’ve finally given myself permission to just walk away and take a moment. I put on some ocean sounds on my Hatch or just take some deep breaths and then enter back into the craziness that is life.
I hope this weekend you take some time to relax and reset. I’m trying to start disconnecting more each weekend and really spending that time with my family, sometimes NOT doing chores! Have a wonderful day and RELAX.
