It’s funny being a mom graduation takes on a whole new feeling and meaning. As a young adult it was the feeling of excitement and a little fear on what comes next. Now it’s this overwhelming feeling of wanting to hang on to every moment with my kids. Last year we had the BIG Kindergarten graduation and this year a slightly less momentous but still acknowledged graduation from elementary school.
As I was getting a ton of requests for graduation dresses I was thinking well what grade, how formal, inside or outside. All of those details can make a BIG difference on what to wear, but no mom wants to take away from their kiddo’s big day. Today I’m sharing some styles that are great for casual outdoor graduations all the way to a more formal indoor event.
Fit Tips: Size down if in-between in a L (friend borrowed my M) so it is clipped in the back because it is too big // wedges size up 1/2
This might sound bad but when I am picking dresses for events where I know I’m going to be photographed I also think about what the other people the the photo might be wearing. This coral dress is a great pop of color if your grad is going to be in black or navy. It brings that pop of spring while being lightweight and breathable.
This is my signature dress that I helped launch last spring when my son was graduating Kindergarten (see that story here) and so many of you said you loved it and wore for your own kids special day.
Since this dress is unlined I do like to wear shapewear with it just to keep everything smooth. I have linked a style that goes all the way up to under my bra and extends to mid-thigh.
This time around I also added some more casual wedges (great for a lawn graduation party) and gold & neutral accessories.

This next dress I would wear for a high school graduation. One of those events where it’s a little more dressy than Kinder but you know that you might be sitting in a gym for a LONG time. This dress is lined in the skirt and can be worn with a regular bra so easy to throw on and go.

This final dress I LOVE the green color (hello did you see Kate Middleton rocking a bright green dress recently too!) and the polished and conservative a-line shape. I envision wearing this to a college or graduate school graduation. Some of those universities where the guests will be more formal this can be a great option.
The dress is fully lined and hits right above the knee but still under $100. I would say it runs slightly small and I prefer it with shapewear so I’m wearing this Spanx one.
