Some people switch up their decor every year I feel like we have moved so much the last 3 years that I just switch homes! Last year I added lots of browns and rustic elements to my holiday decor to play up the Colorado scenery and I was a little concerned how it would all look in our new – much more modern home – and I still love it!
I definitely had some issues with where to put our stockings since we no longer have a mantle but figured out that some 3M hooks and greenery made them look ok near the tree. My daughter added more to her pink teen holiday decor, our Nutcrackers moved upstairs to my son’s “hang out” room and we now also have a fun firepit area to hang out and snuggle.

Last year I looked at the viral Home Depot TWINKLE tree and while I thought I found a store with it in stock it was gone. The best part is it made me find the tree we have now that I LOVE with the same twinkle functions, tons of light but it only does white lights (what I wanted anyway!) Also I added these larger mirror stars that we found in Galveston and a similar mirror star tree topper.
I always get questions on how we get our star to stay and this year my husband completely took off the spiral bottom and added a dowel to the star and attached it that way. Also lots of zips ties have worked in the past!

I really miss having a mantle above my fireplace but we made do with using 3M hooks to hang our stockings and added the real touch Norfolk greenery along the banisters up the stairs. This gave the whole room a little softer, holiday vibe vs. the very modern glass.

The area of the house that I actually LOVED decorating was the floating shelves! My husband joked and said ok now that you have it how you like it, take pictures for next year. I added a few new items from Target and mixed in some accessories we use all year and older decor we’ve had. I love how both sides compliment each other.

Since our home is so open from the living, dining, kitchen and entry way I like to add touches of holiday decor throughout. Not a ton to make it overwhelming but I switch out a lot of greenery, add candles, trees and reindeer where ever I can fit them.
When it comes to holiday scents I’m a HUGE fan of the Nest Holiday Candle, but Target makes a great smelling one too – Balsam & Berry so every year I pick up a few. This year it came in an adorable bell looking shape.

DINING ROOM
One of the areas in this home that is new for us is having a bigger dining room and wine room! Honestly it feels very fancy and not anything I felt we needed but it sure is fun when entertaining. We also got new chairs for our dining table which have the stain free fabric that is incredible! I kept our table pretty similar to last year and love the low profile center piece.

Since we no longer have a dresser in our bedroom much of that decor moved to our new buffet in the dining room. Great thing is it’s right next to the entry to our room so I still see it daily!

PRIMARY BEDROOM
Our new bedroom only has one βrealβ wall so we no longer have a dresser or much else in this space, except I bought my chair from our old living room into this space. I bought this chair when my daughter was in my tummy and it has lasted in 2 nurseries and now it’s my reading spot!
I typically don’t change our bedding for the season but do small accessories on the side tables and top of the headboard to give a little more festive touches. This is Cider’s favorite place to be!

UPSTAIRS FAMILY ROOM & BAR
This area in the new house is unique because I wanted my son to still have a “hang out” area like we did in the basement in Colorado but this small area is attached to a bar. The previous owners had it as a game room but we needed seating so we moved our Pottery Barn couch up here and made do! So this is now our holiday hot chocolate area and nutcracker area.

TEEN ROOM
Last year my daughter decided she wanted pink holiday decor and to have a tree of her own in her room! We found sooo many cute things at At Home. This year she wanted to add to her decor and I’m surprised we didn’t leave with every pink nutcracker!

Well friends that’s it! We will have a “kid” tree but that is the one thing we wait until after Thanksgiving for so until then I’m enjoying the twinkly lights and a book holiday romance by the fire.
