I can’t believe my baby is almost 5! A little backstory, when my husband and I moved to DFW from Austin I found out that I was pregnant while living in temporary housing (aka an extended stay hotel) and thought oh boy… new job, new home, new city, sure why not a new baby too!
When we moved into our current home we instantly decorated little man’s room for a nursery since we knew he was on the way. I was overjoyed when we found out we were having a boy so I went with a cute understated nautical theme. My best friend and photographer Regan Morton took his newborn photos and captured his room when he was born.

Now fast forward a few years and although we had converted his Pottery Barn crib into a toddler bed it was time for a real BIG BOY ROOM! Since he had some goals to accomplish to “earn” his big boy room (think #2 in the potty) I gave him the choice of the theme. My little guy excitedly said SUPERHERO!!
Darn, I totally thought he was picking dinosaur.

Once we had a theme I knew what was going to make his new big boy room special was updated bedding from Beddy’s Beds. My friend Kristy had a set for her daughter and the second I saw this genius bedding that zips up the sides to instantly make the bed I knew we needed it (use code RECRUITER20 for 20% off). Luckily Beddy’s had everything I needed to make a perfect bed including superhero throw pillows!
Since I could hardly wait to show you little man’s superhero room I have posted a few sneak peeks of his Beddy’s already and had a few questions that I wanted to address:

Q & A about beddy’s
Q: How is the quality? A: AMAZING! We have the all cotton version because my kids sleep warm and it is the perfect weight of a comforter. I learned that all the bedding is handmade and each Beddy takes 8 hours to make!
Q: How does it work? A: Each Beddy set is all one piece, it has a zipper on each side that meets at the foot of the bed, you can unzip the top from the bottom to wash. Each side has some extra fabric that folds out to cover the zipper and basically feel like a sheet. To “make” the bed you fold that back in and zip up each side.
Q: What about accidents? A: Since both pieces come apart you can wash the bottom section separately from the top but since Beddy’s recommends only washing once a week you might want to wait until mostly potty trained. My little guy wears a pull-up and waterproof mattress pad so we will cross that fully night potty trained track later (pray for me)!
Q: Are these just for kids? A: NOPE! Actually several of the sets are really neutral and would look gorgeous in a master bedroom. Plus I’ve heard they are great for hard to make beds like RVs and bunk beds.
Now once the bed was perfect I needed to accessorize and of course I went to my favorite place for ideas, Pinterest! I found this super cute idea for legos framed and thought that is so cute who’s making it on Etsy (come on y’all I have lots of things I’m doing and crafts are not on the list right now!) I found this seller with AMAZING reviews.
I loved that it was completely customizable with name, superheros, basically everything. I let Nicky know that I was a bit on a time crunch and even though it shipped from the UK she had it to me so quickly!

The next custom piece I ordered from Etsy were the superhero name letters. Since I knew I needed these quickly I paid for a rush order and was VERY specific on the exact superheros and letters I wanted. I referenced a picture on his Etsy page indicating that I wanted mine to look like the sample. They arrived about two days later than originally promised and the P and R were not painted but decals were used (the sample showed larger painted symbols). When I reached out through the Etsy messenger to indicate that I was disappointed in the final product I got no response.
Although I love (mostly) how these turned out I was disappointed that they were not exactly as I had envisioned so heads up if you are going to order through this seller. To make these POP a bit more I found these lightweight wood squares from Target and used the 3M Velcro strips.
I also used 3M Velcro strips to hang this multi piece Captain America shield. After a few wrong nail holes I thought, what am I doing? I can just stick these to the wall! This piece actually comes with 5 panels but I didn’t want it to overwhelm the area so I just used 3.

Now the rest of the room didn’t change a ton but I did add this adorable flying superman bookend and as you can see some of his reading material is DEFINITELY superhero themed.
We did not move out the rocking chair as of yet because my little guy has had a book read to him (and you are my sunshine sung) every night for his entire life in that chair. I think as he adjusts to his big boy bed I’m hoping to move his PBK anywhere chair into that corner and make more of a playing and reading nook until then he has a mini reading spot right here.

I hoped you love seeing the transformation of my little man’s room, at some point I’ll finally show his superhero birthday party where this all began. Until then please comment on your favorite aspects of the room.

So funny my son had a nautical room and then wanted a fire truck bed so I got him fire truck sheets and throw pillows and blanket for his big boy bed but now I bet he wishes it was superhero themed. We also have dark brown furniture and the same PB anywhere chair. I call his nautical/fire truck room, Pontypandy, the town where the show Fireman Sam is located since it’s on the water and my son’s name is Sam. Love the room!
