Vacation double duty outfits

I can’t believe it’s almost summer break!! Here in Texas our kiddos have about a week until school is out and I know that typically means summer vacations. Recently we visited New Orleans and after packing pjs, outfits and toys for both kids we were pretty much AT WEIGHT LIMIT on all our bags. I realized that I am unfortunately in the thick of the kid years and that means I need to consolidate my outfits.

This gave me a great idea of showing you all some double duty outfits from some of my favorite Gibson items. I took several of my favorite items and styled them for day time sightseeing (or just daily mom life) and then more of an evening look (or daily life- date night!)

WIDE LEG CROP PANTS

Hat | Ruffle tank | Wide Leg Pants | Scallop Edge Top | Sandal Heels | Pink Earrings | Clutch

Fit Tips: I sized up in the pants because I wanted them to be comfy and not restricting so size up if you want extra belly room, L // Pink ruffle top tts, M // Yellow scallop top tts M // Hat is an XS because I feel like I have a small head but needed a S

I seriously can’t explain my love for these pants you must see a video so it will be saved in my IG highlight reel under Nordstrom. It’s hard to see that these have a wide smocked waistband that makes them soft but stretchy. Sometimes I also have issues with this style being too high waisted and coming straight up to the girls but this pair does not!!

Now I know that these two looks are not SUPER different when you first glance but for the evening I’ve dressed it up with a higher quality crepe feeling scallop neck top and some nude heels. One of my favorite parts about the evening look is this rainbow splatter clutch that can also be worn as a cross body.

CALLA KEYHOLE DRESS

Dress | Jacket | Flip Flops | Tote | Sunglasses | Blazer | Earrings | Pumps | Similar Cork Clutch

Fit Tips: Dress tts, M // Jacket tts, L // Blazer size down if in-between M // Heels tts // Flip Flops tts in 37/38 for size 7

This dress I love because it has a fitted band right at the small of my waist then slightly flares down and then has a ruffle at the bottom. The neck is a halter style so you do need to play with the ties a bit to get the fit right on where the top and waist will fall. Unfortunately you will need a strapless bra with this one but you can check out my favorite here.

The white blazer is one that I throw on a lot for meetings or when I just want a look to feel a bit more polished. It is a knit material so super soft and stretchy. It also has a fitted shape and one button so on me it really brings in my waist and gives some curves. I wear my white a good amount but I have also been soo tempted by the RED!

SAVANNAH SCALLOP TOP

Scallop Top | Shorts | Flip Flops | Pink Earrings | Sports Skirt |Similar Leopard Clutch |

Fit Tips: Top tts, M // Shorts size up L // Sports skirt size up if in-between I’m in a L and the waist is a little loose but ordered a M and the rear is so tight I can barely walk! // Sandals tts and actually really easy to walk in I wore twice on our trip walking all around the French Quarter

This is one of the outfits I recently wore in New Orleans to the Audubon Aquarium. It was great because both pieces were very light weight (we walked there and it was in the 80s) and comfortable all day. Then to switch it up I threw on my sports skirt (aka it has bike shorts under) and heels for a quick round at the casino. Although there were several nights that I lost money our final night I won around $500 WHOO HOO!

IVY PAPERBAG SHORTS

Shorts | Ruffle Tank | Flip Flops Pink Earrings | Pink Tote I bought to wear with this | Peach Earrings Similar Leopard Clutch | Rose Gold Glitter Pumps | Scallop Top

Fit Tips: Shorts size up // Ruffle Tank tts, M // Scallop Top tts, M // Flip Flops size up 1/2 size // Heels tts

Now if you look closely these shorts look different because they are different sizes. I’m not a huge fan of high waisted shorts so I thought I would be “smart” and get a L petite (right pic) so the rise would not be as high, well that backfired because they were too tight. At that point the darn shorts were sold out so I was grabbing any size I could so I also ended up trying XL petite which were ok and then finally got in the Large (left pic) and those were right. So moral to the story, size up don’t go crazy to a petite unless you really are petite.

Anyhoo, back to the outfits, these might be some of my favorites because during the day I love this stripe ruffle back tank and it’s hard to see but I have on some bright pink earrings. I had my tribe vote and I’m getting in this tote to also go with this outfit. The black on black outfit is the perfect FAUX romper, you know it’s 2 pieces so you can go potty easily but looks like a super cute romper. I added a leopard clutch and these glitter party heels (now down to $72) and perfect date night outfit.

CARMEL HIGH/ LOW TOP

High/ Low TopShorts (prior season color) | Tote |Flip Flops | Pink Earrings | Skirt | Heeled Sandals | Vacay Clutch/ Crossbody

Fit Tips: Top size down if in-between // Shorts tts, 10 // Skirt size up at least 1 size, in a L need XL // Flip Flops tts // Heeled Sandals tts

When I first was putting together outfits for vacation I had some friends going to amazing tropical places and I totally wanted to be on a beach!! I instead told myself well I just dress like I’m going to a luau and I’ll feel better. This top I have in two sizes (M & S) and both fit but I would say that the small is a bit better because it shows less of my side bra so I would size down if you are in-between although I’m in the medium here. The back is longer so with the skirt it definitely needed to get tucked in.

The pleated skirt was an item I have been a little hesitant on because I feel like some of them make me look really big in the hips. This Gibson version I liked best because it was a bit shorter than most I have found. Although beware this skirt runs SMALL!! I’m in a large and had trouble zipping all the way so I would size up at least 1 size.

WILLOW PEPLUM TOP

Willow Tiered Peplum Top | Jacket | Similar Shorts ConverseJeans | Sandals Earrings|Cardigan

Fit Tips: Peplum Top does fit a bit tight across the chest but the large was too baggy in the body so I stuck to a M so only size up if you are bigger than DD // Shorts size down if inbetween, 10 // Cardigan size up, L // White Jeans sized up, 12 // Sandals tts // Converse tts

This peplum top is my favorite top from the GibsonxLIY release because it is lined, just the right length and comes in the cutest prints! I love the hot pink but the green leopard is adorable as well. This I paired with raw hem white shorts from J.Crew last year, yet I have linked the KUT from the Kloth style because I have these in the denim color and LOVE THEM! These are totally worth picking up because they have a great inseam length and stretch.

The cardigan is an Amazon find and under $13 I got it back in February and wear it ALL THE TIME. Most recently was out to dinner right before Mother’s Day with the amazing blogger Skye McClain and her mom crew!

Packing List

A little about Gibson

I have loved the Gibson brand for years since I could always find reasonably priced items that looked good for work and weekends. As the years have progressed I loved their brand mission of connecting and celebrating their customers.

When I reached out to them and said it’s my GOAL to be an ambassador of your brand they said ok we are looking for women that represent ALL SIZES and we can send you a few things and see what your audience thinks! Most of the Gibson items in this post were purchased by me but some were gifted.

Thank you for loving to see some of their products on a curvy Texas mama and supporting me by using my affiliate links so Gibson can see what you love! All opinions are my own.
