Why I quit my job

As you might know from reading my blog I am not a big “workout” person yet I am trying to get back into a regular routine. Recently my friend Lauren reached out and told me about a company that she had joined that is making high quality workout clothes that compared to Lululemon. I have really liked the fit and quality of Lululemon but let’s be real I’m on a budget. Why are you on a budget? Well, first everyone should be, but here is the full story.

It has been almost a year since I had surgery to remove a tumor that was pressing on my optic nerve. When I was recovering my husband applied for a promotion within our company (yes we worked at the same company see my about me page on that awkwardness) so during the six weeks I was on FLMA he was interviewing for the promotion of his dreams. About a week before I was set to return he found out that he got the job! As much as I was overjoyed by his incredible promotion that allowed us to stay in the DFW area there is a company policy that at a certain level you could not have a family member (ie spouse) also work for the organization. On my first day back from medical leave I packed up my office and said goodbye to an almost 15 year career.

You would think, promotion more money!!

Well unfortunately that was not the case since we lost my income his promotion increase did not fill that gap completely. At that time we decided that I was going to take the summer and spend it with our daughter who was going into first grade and had the summer off. We spent the time going to the gym nearly every day to swim, play and eat their awesome chicken pesto pizza… um hello Lifetime please bring that back! As the summer ended I had to decide what exactly I was going to do with my life. I wanted to be available to pick up my kids from school yet I wanted something that would challenge me and keep me motivated.

Now here’s the thing, when you tell this to anyone they will immediately insert the “work from home” business they are a part of. MLMs (Multilevel marketing) companies basically recruit people exactly like me to join their organizations. I know this because I am a consultant with one, that is how Lauren and I met.

A few years ago I started growing my “backup plan” with a skincare company when I found out about my tumor and subsequent surgery. As a consultant with a MLM growing a business means recruiting others to your team and adding customers. After my surgery I fell into a light depression and withdrew from my skincare business. I did not feel as though I could motivate or encourage anyone, I was figuring out how to just be there for my family. I decided then to “quit” pushing for leadership titles and instead just maintain my existing business. When I talk about my involvement with a MLM many times I get huge push back from other women… I get it. There are some people out there that are pushy and use your friendship just to build their business or grow their team. Luckily that was not the experience I had.

I met women that are so incredibly funny, smart, successful and motivated just being around them made me happy. Lauren is one of those amazing women I met through my skincare company and watching her flourish in not only one business but two has been amazing. I completely see the value in companies that allow women to “make their own schedule” and work their business from home. Zyia, this workout wear company also has this structure. When Lauren reached out and said “hey do you want to try some items”, I told her sure but I will only do it if I can be brutally honest on my blog about them and she said ok.

That is one of the reasons I started The Recruiter Mom I loved telling friends about things I loved (my skincare) but felt stifled by a company that pretty much asked me to only talk about their products. So here now is my little place on the internet where I get to talk about it all!

Here then is my honest thoughts on Zyia, I love it! Most of the fabrics that Zyia uses are 4-way stretch fabric to help with stretch ability, compression, form, fit and comfort. You can feel that difference in their fabrics compared to some of my less expensive leggings or tops. As much as I loved the red 7/8 legging they are longer than I like so I will be sticking with the capri style. The pants have a high waist which typically I don’t love but these do not roll and they majorly slim me out so I’m all for it. I like that they have a lot of basic colors but a few fun prints… hello camo and interesting cutouts (like my pair below). The tank I got has that some compression feel, I got a medium so it would be a tight layer and even after a few days in my gym bag it did not get smelly! Zyia actually invests a ton in making all their fabrics have:

  • Moisture control
  • Temperature control
  • Strategic ventilation
  • Breathability
  • Anti-odor
  • Sweat wicking
  • Slimming component
  • Muscle support
  • Adaptive
  • Compression

As I said at the beginning I’m on a budget and although these are not $20 leggings they run about $59-$75 they are much less than Lululemon where a similar pair of leggings will run about $118. The tank I have is $31 and the long sleeve split back top (in an XL) is $45. I am hosting a party for Lauren through February 9th so check it out, some of you have already told me your love for Zyia so see if there are any new items you need to add to your collection. New products load each Wednesday so if you don’t see what you are looking for right now check back in a week and inventory could change.

As for me I have found my happy place here on this blog where I get a chance to tell you about awesome clothing like Zyia, share with you my organization hacks and rave about kid stuff that I love. Thank you for being here with me, for trusting me and for cheering me on. It has been the toughest and most rewarding year of my life and I can’t wait to see what this next year looks like.
