I will never forget the week before I was supposed to come back to work after having my second baby. I was feeling good because although I had not lost all the baby weight, I was rocking my pre-pregnancy jeans. Then I tried on my suit pants… are you kidding me?! The suckers wouldn’t even come close to buttoning, I had forgotten that my well loved jeans had like 5% spandex and were letting this sleep deprived mom think that all was good. This is around the time that I realized work DRESSES were going to be my new staples. Over the years I have tried a variety of suit dresses because when I buy an expensive suit jacket I try and get the pants, skirt and dress so I can make as many outfits out of my investment piece. Last year though I tried a Boden dress (did not have a matching jacket) because I was looking for a classic black dress with some stretch that I could match with a few of my blazers. I fell in love with this stretchy but professional looking dress so this year I looked for another and found the Jasmine Ottoman Dress.
The Jasmine Ottoman Dress is a thicker jersey material so it has that good stretch but not too thin that you are seeing all the lumps and bumps. It has a semi-fitted shape so I went with my typical size 10 but I could have sized down in this if I wanted the skirt a bit tighter. I love a 3/4 length sleeve on a work dress since my office tended to be on the chilly side but I live in Texas.. so you sweat your behind off any time you walk outside. Nordstrom is starting to carry mom Boden so I was excited to see that they just got in this dress in 2 colors, but the Boden website has all 5.

Night Out

This BLANKNYC Suede Jacket was a BIG hit early in the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale and the green sold out in about one day. Now that the sale is over it is pretty much re-stocked in all sizes and colors. It is definitely and investment piece ($188) but I’m not a huge black leather jacket person so I know I will get a ton more use out of this one since it has a bit of that feminine feel to it. The Vince Camuto Kentvi sandals ($150) are another Anniversary sale find but I loved the style last year so I knew I had to grab another color this year, they run true to size for me and REALLY comfortable.. like walk all around Vegas for 3 days comfortable.
Casual

I got this Caslon vest last year but the one I linked from Pleione is almost exactly the same, it is a great staple for fall ($88), this fits true to size and I have a M. The Dr. Scholl’s Lux sneaker ($90) I grabbed during the Anniversary sale and I got them in my typical size 7. I have seen reviews that they are tight and mine were a bit when I first got them but loosened up as I wore them, if you are in-between sizes though you might want to go up.
Now you know my secret to having an extra glass of wine or grabbing that taco… dresses that stretch!
