Looking back at all the years of family photos I can say while it was such a pain to coordinate calendars, purchase outfits and attempt for everyone to look at the camera at the same time (yeah right) I don’t regret doing them. Having these moments in time captured of our family is precious so let me help you with what I find the most stressful… OUTFITS!
Last year our family was separated during the fall because my husband had to move to Denver a few months before we could join him so we never got our full family in pictures. This year I’m so excited to be doing a mini session with my amazing local photographer Lisa in October. Since I know that it doesn’t make sense to wait until you see our pics I figured I would help you plan! I put these together with our family in mind so mom, dad, tween girl and 8 year old boy. This neutral color scheme I love if you are doing your family photos in the fall but maybe on a beach or an open field. Playing off the colors of the tan grass or even like my kids did a few years ago in a studio these all look so lovely together then with some pops of soft pink. H&M has some great toddler and baby options in this dusty pink for fall.

This color scheme might be my favorite!! I’m seeing this deep olive in a ton of styles then paired with a rich caramel color is so classic and while it feels very fall surrounded by turning leaves it also can look great on a holiday card. The girls dress is from an amazing company called Joyfolie that has stunning dresses for women, tweens and girls it’s my go-to for photo worthy dresses for my daughter.

This is a color scheme we did many years ago when my daughter was one. I loved the rich browns next to a deep purple and this year I’m seeing a lot of these tones so great time to try it again! When you have more family members add in the navy or play up the burgundy and it all works well together.

I like giving a more “formal” option as well for those families that are doing studio photos. This color scheme is a classic tartan plaid but made easy with adding in some brown touches to still feel like either fall or holiday. This green is brighter than the one that was paired with the camel, for items named “pine” it will give you that brighter green that pairs well.

Bring snacks (like the good candy kinds for when kids melt down) remember to take individuals of each family member, these are great for work headshots or when you need that pic of just one kid. Have FUN but even when a kid is having a meltdown don’t worry about it, those pictures end up being my favs!
