CO HOME | Primary Bedroom & Closet

Welcome to our new home!! For those of you who missed it the story of how we ended up moving from Texas to Denver, CO is on this post along with all the details on our semi-custom home build. As we are now in about month 10 of building (backyard is still under construction) my building fatigue has set in so I’m trying to concentrate on the areas of our home that are DONE!

When we were in the building process we were very hesitant about the size of our primary bedroom. It was SMALL in comparison to our TX home and the closet was microscopic. Once we talked with the builder we knew the best way to use the space was to build a custom closet and reduce the furniture in our actual bedroom.

We kept our Pottery Barn king size bed and bedside tables that we originally purchased in Texas which actually filled the space nicely. We both have just enough room on either side of the bed and good walk area at the foot of the bed.

My most recent purchase though was this lightweight bamboo blanket. Now that we have a tv in our room I like to watch a show on the weekends in bed but don’t want to mess up the entire bed. This lightweight throw from Walmart ended up being the PERFECT sea green and feels like a dream.

Now the other area that I’m so glad that we stepped in and really customized in this home was our primary closet. When I talked to the builder on what was “standard” I knew it would not allow for the amount of storage we would need. My husband was losing a dresser so we really needed some drawers in our closet. Also he is 6’4 and has a professional job which means some LONG suit jackets and every other closet we had they would always drag on the shelf so it was time to make something for us!

We used a company called Colorado Space Solutions and they have been great. We ended up changing a configuration and they quickly had a new rod and shelf ordered and installed. The total cost was about $7,600 and I know it was a great investment in the home.

The layout included a 5 drawer set on the backside of the closet for my husband and one on my side that has a top jewelry drawer. I knew I also wanted a spot where I could have accessories visible and a FULL shoe wall for my side and my husband. We went with arctic white cabinets, shaker style with matte brass rods and pulls. Basically I was trying to recreate the look I had in my TX home office that I LOVED!

The other feature I LOVED in my old home office closet was the pullout valet bars. This is so nice when my husband is pulling out a suit jacket to wear or I’m deciding on outfits. I can pull out the bar it hold about 5-8 items on it!

I also got a lot of questions on how I organize these drawers when I gave a sneak peek a few months back. All of my workout tanks and leggings I file fold as well as my husband’s t-shirts. I found this flip fold years ago and it is so useful for his tees. When I fold on this I can fit 3 wide in a drawer.

For the upper shelves I ordered some of the higher end Acadia wood boxes from The Neat Method that are linen lined. While these are expensive we used 4 to accent the closet and keep items hidden. Then I filled in bigger areas with the Oxford boxes and clear shoe boxes.

So this is our new space! While it has been an adjustment moving I did add some features to make this space feel instantly like home including the wall color Sea Salt by Sherwin Williams that we had in our old bedroom. Every time I see the color it brings me joy and calm, exactly what we wanted in our bedroom retreat.
