Last year I did my first post for Fall Family Photos and you LOVED it! I was told that it was so helpful that I am back for round 2. This year I’ve decided to pull some of The Recruiter Mom photo archives out and use some of our photos as inspiration for color schemes. Since I have a son and daughter I’m always on the hunt for options for boys and girls so under each of my inspiration photos I will give you links for current items you can shop this year!
Now one of my biggest suggestions is to ensure that you keep with the same color family aka “gold” buy your coordinating items from the same retailer. For example this year Old Navy has a great yellow this season called sunflower gold so if I know that I want to be wearing a touch of yellow but then a solid yellow for my son I will buy both those pieces in the same color from the same store. Since I am trying to get similar colors for the entire family I did grab some items from places like Matilda Jane, LOFT and Hanna Anderson but most are from retailers that can outfit the entire family for better matching ability.
I also understand that every family has a different budget and style for their family photos from inexpensive casual to formal no expense spared. I have tried for each color scheme to give you a few price points and retailers to match most budgets.

**Important Note on shopping: To ensure that I can continue to bring you great ideas please consider using the links provided on the blog this allows me to see what items you are loving. This works best on a computer or laptop but if you are shopping on your mobile device just make sure to complete your transaction in whatever social media window or browser you clicked from. Thank you for your continued support!
GREEN, RED & BLUE

This is one of my favorite color combos because it is perfect for pictures now, then to use on a holiday card later. These outfits I picked out for the kids specifically for the nutcracker ballet that we attend every year.
Although I did this same color scheme with a family last year and they did a very dresses down version of the same colors so dressed up or down it looks great in pictures. This year I switched it up and grabbed a more bright red from Boden called Rockabilly Red for kids, which is coming in dresses, cardigan and some cute plaids. I loved the little girl red velvet shoes and bow in this color! Postbox red for mamas has so many options is is totally stunning, although I have not yet seen these reds side by side in real life yet since much was just released.

ALMOND, CHEDDAR & PINK

This color combo is great when you have a little one that you want to really pop on photos. In 2016 my daughter had this beautiful Matilda Jane dress that we all dressed around. Her dress had pops of pink and then we wore the yellow and maroon.
To update this color scheme for fall 2019 add more pops of pink and darker tones of brownish orange. I found a ton of items at Old Navy in sunflower gold, burnt ginger and pink. The boots unfortunately are REALLY expensive but they were so pretty I had to add them. Since this has a lot of pink in it I thought it would be a great for families that have lost of girls, although I will say both my husband and son can ROCK pink.

LIGHT PINK, BLUESTONE & KHAKI

This color combination is very classic and can be done in a preppy way, western or just casual. I love preppy clothes so much and wish many times that I lived on the East Coast so I could get away with pearls and pastel pink all year long but alas I live in Texas so I like mixing my preppy with a little trendy. For me that is when I rely on Boden, I love the classic UK look but they always switch it up with a little trendy edge plus the quality is fantastic and it just fits my kids well.
I have seen this color palette done just with bluestone and khaki with a navy mixed in but I have a little girl (and mama) that loves pink so I added two little girls into this layout to see how light and a pop of darker pink look amazing with the khaki and bluestone. Most of these items are from Boden their cloudburst blue and chalky pink are great colors for this palette.

PEPPER, RED, CREME & BROWN

This year looking through the Pantone colors for fall there is a big moment for chili pepper, biking red, creme de peach and rocky road (aka berry colors, brown and creme). Now this picture is from 2015 and our colors are not exact but you definitely get the idea how the pinks, red and browns can look great together.
To update this look for fall 2019 I would add a lighter wash denim to get closer to this year’s bluestone color. We have already seen cardigans in this color scheme (aka Madewell and Target) fly off the shelves this year so it’s a fun one to do because of the amount of options out there.

BLACK, GREY & BRIGHT RED

This classic family photo color scheme we used for our very first family photos when my daughter was about 7 months old. Once again I found her an adorable red onsie and we built all the rest of the colors around her but now that we have four in our family I like having the kids coordinate but not 100% match.
This year Gap has some great red buffalo plaid shirts, skirts and dresses making dressing a full family much easier. I ADORE my red gloss hunter boots so anytime I can add those in a pic I’m also happy. When adding items for the rest of the family search Modern Red at Gap and you will see some great items to coordinate with this plaid.

BURNT ORANGE, OLIVE & DARK RED

And finally is it really a family photo session unless one child end up in tears?! I’m not exactly sure how many crying pictures I have but is it horrible to say that sometimes these end up being my favorites?!
As I was pulling pictures for this post I realized we have never done family photos in the most classic fall color scheme orange, brown, green and red. These colors are fantastic when you live in a place where you get the turning of the leaves and this year you can find a ton of oranges and browns.
This year Old Navy has orche and burnt ginger that are dark orange/ brown colors that remind me of fall. The green dress is from Amazon but at Old Navy their Matcha Green is great and tons of family options.

Although we live in Texas and we WILL NOT have any turning leaves to stand by this is the color scheme I decided to do for our family this year. When I pulled items for us I decided to go with a brighter yellow than the burnt orange and absolutely love how it turned out… now just to book those photos!

GREAT post! We are doing family photos in October for the first time in two years. You made it much easier for me to think through outfits. Thank you!
