The Nutcracker and the DRESS!

When my husband and I met there was something that was make or break it in our relationship… would he go to the Nutcracker? IMG_5293
See when I was a little girl I lived in the Bay Area (California) and the most special part of the holidays is when my parents would drive me into the “city” to see the Nutcracker at the San Francisco Ballet. Just ask my husband nothing compares in my mind to the San Francisco Ballet but in every place I have lived I would scrape money together to get tickets to see the Nutcracker. Now I know this probably seems early but if you are a hard core Nutcracker lover than you have already purchased your tickets or will be doing so within the nest few weeks. Luckily my man did love me enough to make seeing the Nutcracker a tradition and has taken me to the every year (except 1) for the last 13 years.

When we had babies I was a little concerned if they would like a ballet or have the patience to sit through a performance. The first year that we took my daughter and at the end of the ballet she threw the most massive melt down fit (like only a 2 year old can) she screamed and cried… “more dancers, more dancers” and I knew that she was my child. Then when we had my son I was concerned again if he would have the patience and would he even care about dancing..that kid was mesmerized! Part of it might have been meeting the pretty ballerinas before the performance but it stuck!

I’m sure you are wondering where I am going with all of this in October… like I said if you are a BIG Nutcracker lover than you are getting tickets soon (or already have them). Which also means you are thinking about outfits to wear to the ballet. Now I don’t know about our family but one of the reasons I LOVED the Nutcracker was seeing all the little girls dressed in their prettiest dresses running down the aisles just to poof into their seats. So when I had a little girl one of the best parts was finding a beautiful dress that she could wear to the ballet. Now your family might not go to the ballet and that’s fine! All these dresses are fantastic for a variety of holiday events like Santa pics, church, holiday parties, New Year’s Eve etc.

My favorites over the past few years have come from Boden. I feel like they always have high quality Christmas themed dresses that are able to be dressed up or down depending on the occasion. The one in the picture above is from several years ago but they always do a beautiful appliqué jumper for babies (but goes up to size 3/4). As my daughter has grown I have started looking into other brands that fit my expectation for quality but also fit in the soft/pretty/can wear to several events bucket. These are my top holiday dresses for little girls, keep in mind you will see a good amount of Boden (I can’t help myself) but several other retailers that you might not shop on a regular basis. These are all available this season (2018) but like all great things sizes tend to sell out early so order soon.

We also got in the Monsoon Reindeer Dress and I went off the age vs size and I got it wrong! I ordered a 5/6 and she needed a 7/8, but it’s very well made and the sequins are beautiful! The sweater and booties make this an incredible outfit but double check everything because there are no returns since it ships from the UK.
