Last weekend I went to my first blogger conference and it was an amazing experience because for the first time I really had to discuss what I’m doing and why. In my corporate career it was easy to rattle off my career, company and vision in 30 seconds because I did it so often at career fairs, interviews and class presentations. My path as a blogger is still new and it almost feels like I’m a fraud when I say “I have a lifestyle blog” yet I really went back to why I’m doing this. For years as a busy mom I relied on bloggers (like the wonderful Erin from Living in Yellow that I got to meet during the conference) to shop and get ideas because there was no way I had time to go to a store and try things on!
Although I did feel frustrated at times because what looks good on a size 2 body doesn’t always translate well to my size 10/12 body. Also I worked in a business professional environment and it felt like no one was talking about work wear. So when I started The Recruiter Mom I have always tried to incorporate work wear into my posts. That has taken several shapes as I navigate how I bring you ideas but I think it’s fun to have a whole haul from one retailer so you can shop a store at a time. The last one I did was from Banana Republic Factory (check out that post here) and in the fall I brought you an entire capsule wardrobe (check out that post here) this time I’m headed back to Target! I know that you all have different budgets so I will continue to mix it up on price points.
Before we get started let’s also get the awkward conversation out of the way, I’m 5’5 and typically wear a 10/12. I’m a 36DD and in most tops a medium or 8/10.
Quick side note: If you’d like to see more of these workwear posts, please consider not shopping via the Target app when on your phone/tablet. Not only does it not credit the sale to me, but it keeps me from seeing what you like most! When you use my links I receive a small commission if you were to purchase an item (at no additional cost to you) so thank you for considering this option.
Dress | Similar Nude Heels (wide width)
This dress fit the best of all the dresses with a tie waist and shirt dress shape. It was a good length for a business casual environment.
Fit Tips: Dress true to size, medium
Blouse | Similar Jegging | Slip-on shoes | Skirt | Pumps
The blouse is a great silky popover that has roll sleeves and knit back. It is one you can totally dress up and down like here. The skirt on the other hand was a total miss, I sized up and even with that the pockets were buckling and it fit tight.
Fit Tips: blouse true to size, medium. Skirt runs small size up 1-2 sizes, in a 12 and still tight.
Flutter sleeve Blouse | Pull on Pants | Leopard Pumps
The blouse is this same chiffon material all the way around so great to wear with or without a jacket. These ankle pants have a pull-on waist band and front seam so they look professional yet they are SUPER comfy!
Fit Tips: Top true to size, medium. Pants true to size, 10
Jacket | Cami | Blouse | Skirt | Pumps
This blazer has the best colors of grey, light pink, black and blue so basically everything looks great with it. The first look I have this cream colored cami that I swear feels like it’s double the cost, but alas it was too tight across the chest in the medium. Same pull-on pants as the look above and the skirt same one as with the pink blouse.
Fit Tips: Jacket fits slightly tight size up if you button your jacket, medium. Cami size up if you are larger chested.
Blouse | Skirt | Pumps
This floral top is great for spring for an office look or grab some jeans and untuck it because it’s loose and flowy.
Fit Tips: Blouse true to size, medium
Dress
This knit dress I had some high hopes for but it was a big miss. Too tight, way too deep of a V-neck and even with sizing up I don’t think it would be professional enough for work.
Fit Tips: Dress size up and most likely will need a cami, in a medium
